Guitars sound like flaming lava, riffs melting into one another while moving slowly across everything and destroying everything - the plaintive and bruised cries for help over it all add a weight that sinks you beneath the earth. The sound is as clear as the soul is dark.

I've been wrestling with this album for 6 months. Nug's "Alter Ego" is quality post-metal, ok? That being said I have not written my thoughts because I've also been going through a huge Cult of Luna phase for almost like 15 years lol. So when Nug decides to drop this in between two massive CoL releases, it puts in stark contrast to me how this record just kind of pales in comparison to their greatness. "Alter Ego" just doesn't move me emotionally like "A Dawn To Fear." But then, what else can?
